What is Delta Yarns?

Locals know the Burdekin region in this northern part of Queensland as The Delta, where seasonal creeks, causeways, lagoons riverways, wetlands and ocean merge and grow unexpected life.

The rains wash sediment that engulfs the waterways, spawning nutrients that in turn supports nature, life and human enterprise. Delta Yarns explores and celebrates the region’s history, diversity, artistry and idiosyncrasy that has evolved from this watershed.

From the original Bindal and Juru peoples, followed by white settlers, indentured labourers and migrants, we are a perfect mongrel mix of every indigenous and immigrant person that made the Burdekin home; from the Basque Country, China, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malaysia, Scotland, the South Sea Islands, Spain, Sri Lanka and Torres Strait Islands.

As a not-for-profit, our goal is to nurture the heart of our community through storytelling and to reignite the best of the Burdekin through arts, tourism, and heritage projects.
