Welcome to the fashion capital of the north.

The Burdekin was once considered the place to shop. It was the fashion capital of the north.

This crowning title continues to decorate a colourful past full of masterful tailors, cobblers, seamstresses and resourceful country women who captured the history of a burgeoning region through the canvas of fashion.

In an unparalleled regional initiative, Delta Yarns have opened the blanket boxes to reveal astounding museum-standard local garment collections of women’s clothing and accessories spanning the 1920s through to the early 2000s. This is the signature collection that has styled several distinct projects, workshops and events.

Specifically, our inaugral project Re:Collections.

Re:Collections 2022

Re:Collections engaged the North Queensland regional community of the Burdekin by creatively retelling stories around place through fashion, art and writing.

Responding to remarkable local vintage garment and accessory collections (1920s-90s) and a community-based photographic series, Re:Collections involved collaboration between local and established national practitioners and the community.
